Dennis Miller Jr. is a retired naval officer, artist and recently retired organic farmer. He learned art first from his mother and took an art class at the University of Nebraska in 1966, but he had the majority of his art training at Autumn Art Workshops at Nebraska State Forest near Halsey, Nebraska, and in Aurora, Nebraska and by studying art books and magazines.
Dennis started painting seriously in 1993 primarily in acrylics, but currently enjoys working with soft pastels. He enjoys a variety of subjects, but is partial to western Nebraska scenes and events. Two of his most popular prints are of old Lewellen - the grain elevators shown below - and Lewellen circa 1915. Dennis has particularly enjoyed painting architectural structures like the old truss bridge south of Lewellen and an abandoned house made of native rock.
Dennis and his brother Rex have repaired and upgraded office buildings on Main Street in Lewellen. The corner gas station was an eyesore and is now a functioning business and home of the Ash Hollow Art Club gallery. Other repairs and improvements have been made to the post office, The Most Unlikely Place, the State Theater and the Ranch House.
